Afton's Many Talents- 8th Grade Bball & NCA

ent Afton continues to enjoy doing 'it all'. Currently, she is playing both school and rec basketball, is a practice player on TAV Molten 14, and it on the Nationals Competition Squad for CTMS Cheer. Last week was the district champs game- and CTMS won! Afton scored 10 points during the game against HMS. It's so fun to see her shooting more and making great passes. She is a smart player- we are proud of her!

After a late-night on Thursday and then school all day on Friday, we headed out for NCA National's Competiton in Dallas. I volunteered to chaperone a room of girls, the plan was to stay both Friday and Saturday night in the hotel since the girls had early morning performances on both Saturday and Sunday. Our roomies included Ella and Allison. All of the girls were so sweet.

We went a little overboard with the snacks :)

After checking in and hanging out, we walked to dinner. Then the girls headed to the mat for practice. I went out to dinner with a few moms while girls practiced. It was fun to get to know some of the cheer moms better. We wrapped up the night in the room by watching "Cheer" on Netflix.

At 1 is poor Allison began throwing up- all over. She was sick from 1am-5am. I had to book it downstairs at 5am and get us a new room so the other girls could get ready for the competition. Everyone, including Allison, made it downstairs and dressed for the 6:45am team meeting. All the girls walked over to the convention center and practiced. I moved our entire room to the new room, filled in Allison's mom about the night and then hit Starbucks before showing up at the performance.

The girls did really well and placed 5 out of 10 teams for the first day. Even Allison performed! Afterward, her mom took her home to rest. The squad spent the afternoon practicing and I snuck in a workout at the hotel. In the afternoon, Malinda and I took the girls to North Park. They had a blast roaming the mall, eating at the food court, and just being teenagers.

While we were shopping, our other roommate Ella, began to feel sick. So her mom came and picked her up. Since it was past 6pm and only Afton and I was left in the room-- we decided to drive home for dinner with Jeff and Maisy. We also decided to we needed to sleep in our own beds! After a night of caring for a sick kid, I was exhausted. Afton and I fell asleep at 9pm and then left on Sunday morning at 7 are to make it back to Dallas for the final competition. Unfortunately, one of the stunts fell and our girls finished in 6th place. Afton kept telling me that she had fun and really enjoyed competing again. So I felt like it was a worthwhile investment for our efforts! I am thankful for the time I got to spend with Afton and her squad, plus the other moms. Overall- even with the sickness- it was a great experience.

And what did Jeff and Maisy do all weekend? Well, they had a blast! They went to Dave & Busters, the Dallas Zoo and watched the new Dora movie. It was a great weekend for them.

On Sunday, after cheer was over- we all went to the Ashmore's for the Super Bowl. It was a low key party and I won some cash! We were all tired this morning, but sleep will have to wait till next weekend! Ha!
