Sam turns 38, Field Day & Wolf Fest, Memorial Day

There is only one place I love to eat on my birthday- Joe T's! The girls spotted a 'famous' golfer too. Who knew they were such fans?!

And we started wrapping up school!

Field Day for Maisy - Jeff was pretty stoked they won the Tug of War.

And WolfFest for Afton. She won the highest honor "Leader of the Pack" given to only 20 kids out of 400. She was nominated and voted on by her teachers- they all unanimously decided that this group of kids were the top leaders in their grade. So proud of her!

And she got the Wolf Award for academic excellence in her World Cultures class.

Her favorite teacher, Mrs. Weeks, presented it to her.

For Memorial Day, we made homemade pizzas and swam.

Then it was back to school for three shorts days- Afton had exams and Maisy had her 'year end celebration'. I wrote this about Maisy on Facebook and I wanted to save it here so I always remember:
Second grade- what a year! Maisy has come so far in her confidence and academics. But the things I am most proud of, will never show up on her report card. She is tenacious and has grit, she is empathic and is kind. She has such a big heart and sees the good in everyone. Dyslexia is a hard road to walk, but this girl is making her own way! Love you to the moon & back sweet Maisy Lou.

On this day, everyone had to get up and read what they liked about Second Grade. And Maisy's dear friend, who also has dyslexia was struggling to read his aloud. The teacher was talking to someone else and didn't notice. The boy was frozen in front of his class and all the parents and without skipping a beat, Maisy popped up to the front to help him. My heart exploded. My child who struggles with reading herself, working to help someone else read. Wow.

The day before school let out, the Burger Truck came and we had an early lunch together on the lawn.

Then I picked up Afton early (due to exams) and we had lunch with Grammy.
