First Day of School- 9th Grade and 5th Grade

We opted to start the year as remote learners. The entire district required everyone to learn from home for the first 3 weeks. But after that students were given a choice- to either stay remote until the end of the first 9 weeks or to go back in person. It was a hard decision but due to sports and ballet and the fact that I could stay at home with our girls- we made our choice.

Maisy has a WebEx for each class and then independent work time. She has to complete the work- but the WebEx meetings are all optional. Her only required meeting is her Dyslexia class. It is a lot of screen time and reading/writing on a computer. It's hard... but if we work together, she can get it done. It takes almost an entire school day- with breaks of course. She has two hours of ballet each afternoon/evening (in person!).

Afton has volleyball everyday from 7-9am and then works remotely in her room. She has a WebEx for each class and then independent work time. If she misses a WebEx, she can simply watch a video of the class and complete an exit ticket. So far, it's been a lot of computer time.

There is a little bit of freedom that comes with remote learning. One day we met Grandpa and Grandma for lunch. But most days, it is hard work all day long.

Pets have been a welcome distraction and bright point to our days.

And Afton's weekly friend dinners have been a blessing.

Such a strange year - we keep reminding ourselves to look for the silver lining!
