Broken Bow, OK

We have talked forever about taking a family trip with our friends -- and we finally got it on the books. We wanted a little weekend away, something out-doorsy, and a chance to be active. We also wanted it to feel like 'glamping' -- not camping! Ha! We decided on a trip to Broken Bow, Oklahoma. It is only about a 3 hour drive from the DFW area. And it is amazing how much the landscape changes from the metroplex to the wooded area of Broken Bow.

I created the "Lake Hair Don't Care" shirts for the girls. Then did "Happy Campers" shirts for Kim and myself.

We checked into our cabin around 5pm on Friday. We rented it from Airbnb- the cabin was called "Borrowed Time". It was brand-new. It had a pretty kitchen, two bedrooms (each with queen sized beds) and two bathrooms downstairs, and a loft with 4 single beds upstairs. Each bedroom and the loft had a tv, and so did the family room. There was a pool table in the loft and a hot tub on the back porch. The area outside of the cabin was shaded with lots of tall trees and had a fire pit with chairs and a picinic table.

After we checked in, we hung out and let the girls explore. With Jeff's help, they shot a bb gun and a bow. Then they hopped into the hot tub. They were wasting no time!

For dinner that night, we went to Grateful Head Pizza. It was pretty busy, but we listened to live music while we waited for our table. By the the food arrived, we were all famished.

The next morning, Jeff and I got up early and found the cutest coffee shop. Okie Girls Coffee and Ice Cream. Then we all went hiking on the Lakeview Lodge Trail. It took us about 2 hours. I think our little detours along the way (aka getting off the trail!) set us back a bit. We were all tired and hot when we finally reached the end.

And PS- I fell down. I was racing Afton to the finish and I tripped on a rock. Cut up and bruised both my legs. So embarrassing!

We had made reservations online at the Beavers Bend Marina. We got a 15 passenger pontoon boat with a tube for 4 hours. The girls loved tubing. We had a hard time getting them to take a break so we could just swim and relax.

That evening we went to dinner at Moon Tower Bar & Grill. They had live music and really fresh food. The girls danced and danced.

After dinner, we made smore's (for the second night!) and did some star-gazing. Everyone was super sleepy by the time we made it to bed.

On Sunday, we got up early again and picked up coffee at Abendingo's. Then we loaded up and went straight to the lake for paddle boarding. Jeff recently bought these iRocker inflatable paddle boards. They are amazing because they are made of heavy duty PVC plastic. They fit inside a backpack and inflate in about 5 minutes. So they are perfect for hiking into a great spot, inflating and getting on the water. We were on the paddle boards for about 2 hours.

And then we had to come home. All good things must come to an end. But this quick weekend away at Broken Bow was awesome. We can't wait to go back when the weather gets cooler.

Glamping with friends is the way to go!
