So we had no power. We ended up going 60 hours without power. We had water, we had hot water, and we had our fireplace. But no heat or electricity. Jeff and I stayed home, the worry that a pipe might burst was real. Our pool froze over. We had to just 'watch & wait' for warmer weather.
So what did we do while we were waiting for power to be restored?
The first day we tried to make our own coffee on the stovetop. I do not recommend this. Happily, we found out that QT has really good coffee. (Everywhere else was closed- most grocery stores, restaurants, Starbucks, etc.)
School was cancelled all week. So we took more walks.
We played games by candlelight.
We cooked dinner with a headlamp, thank goodness for a gas stove-top!
We drove around in the car to charge our phones. Here we are at Home Depot looking to buy a generator. Ha! None to be found.
We worried about the pool. We just bought brand new pool equipment. When the power went out, the pool froze over and we are worried about what that has done to the pool. Jeff was able to open some of the valves to relieve the pressure of the frozen water. But time will tell.
Rocky played a lot in the snow.
Jeff and I got two date nights- because the girls were sick of the cold and went to stay with Grandpa and friends.
We completed two puzzles.
We sat on the couch, drank wine, and talked a lot.
We realized we don't own candlesticks. Lol
Jeff and Maisy spent a lot of time tending to the rabbits.
They are messy and high maintenance when kept indoors!!
More snow fell and the temps dropped to 0.
On the third day, friends invited the girls over for the day for sledding and heat.
That afternoon, after 60 hours-- our power came back on!!!!
We had one last candlelight dinner and finished our puzzle. (Rocky ate one of the pieces- dang dog!!)
Our house warmed back up. Cleaning the house, doing laundry and dishes- felt like a luxury. SO many of our neighbors now have extensive water damage due to broken pipes. We counted our blessings that our family room stayed almost 60 degrees thanks to our fireplace and the design of our home. We counted our blessings that we had hot water the whole time. We had food and clean drinking water. We had friends and family to keep our kids happy and warm. We survived the Texas Winter Storm of 2021 and hope that we can keep our attitude of gratitude long after the snow melts.
