A Broken Fingers and Stitches

I can't believe we made it this long without an ER trip. But all good things must come to an end. And although I always though Afton's adventorous spirit would land her in the hospital, it was my careful little Maisy that ended up there.

On a quiet Monday morning she was playing under a small end table the Coco. Somehow they knocked it over and the tabletop or the items on it fell on her hand. It fractured her middle finger and essentially 'blew out' the end of her ring finger.

The blood made me sick! Good thing Jeff was home.

And now sweet Maisy is getting all kinds of sympathy for her tiny cast.

The doctor put a hard hot pink cast on it and said after 3 weeks, we should be able to remove it.

Since it is on her right hand, she is learning to do all sorts of things with her left hand. I have impressed with her positive attitude about the entire thing. And the good thing is, the cast will be off in time for her big dance recital and swimming pool season.

Bless her heart!

Easter 2013

This was an especially good Easter. We had attended the Maundy Thursday and the music was amazing. Afton went to The Rock (youth church room) for the "Jr Maundy Thursday" service. She was a little nervous to go in, but ended up having a blast. She learned a lot about the Easter story, socialized with friends and made a"He Is Risen" keychain.

I felt like we all had a good chance to 're-experience' the Easter story. So on Sunday, we were ready to go church and celebrate the resurrection. After we church, we went to Grammy's house for a 'picnic themed' lunch. Fried chicken, fruit, deviled eggs, potato salad, and fruity desserts.

The girls were happy to see Grammy and Gramps and Ryan and Tessa. Uncle Jade, Aunt Jenn and cousins Analeigh and Emmie came too. After dying eggs, we ate lunch. Then headed outside for the egg hunt.

Afton seemed to find the most eggs...

but everyone had fun hunting.

Then the girls played and played. The weather was perfect.

Happy Easter!

Afton is Seven!

Every year, on Afton's birthday, I say the exact same thing. How can she be ____? But this year, I really feel like "How can Afton be 7?!" I can clearly remember where we were seven years ago. And I can honestly say, given the rocky beginning, I never dreamed her life would be this good.

When I look at her now, she looks so much older :) all of the sudden. You know when you see someone everyday, you sometimes miss things. Then you take a step back and you see things differently.

She is growing into such a beautiful girl!

She is funny and 'gets things'-- she is my little friend. She loves singing, dancing, and acting. Her heart is full and she loves to help others. She can read chapter books, bike 6 miles, and draw just about anything. We love our smiley girl.

For her birthday, the celebration was spread out over a week. Since we did Disney and got Coco this year, we decided to for-go the usual 'friend' birthday party. So on Sunday night, we celebrated with a mini-family party.

Then on her actual birthday- Thursday- we celebrated again. That day, I got to accompany her class to the Perot Museum for their first grade field trip.

After school, we surprised her with a trip to the Apple Store to pick out her very first iPod. She chose one that was lime green.  (She is already loving having all her music with her-- bike rides, car trips, or just dancing around the house.)

We finished the day with dinner at Joe's Pizza, church, and then cookie cake at home.

Friday Grandma and Grandpa took her out for shopping and dinner. She loved getting some one-on-one time with them and picking out her own clothes.

We are so thankful for our Afton May. Seven is going to be a great year!

Day Tripping: Klyde Warren Park

Maisy and I did a little day trip to Dallas this week. After running an errand downtown, we decided to to stay in the city and have lunch. We ended up over at the Klyde Warren park. The park is unique because it is built in the hustle-bustle of the freeways. A quiet green space in a large stretch of concrete.

And because it was in Dallas, this sign made me laugh. Good thing I was wearing flats :)

Maisy kicked off her shoes and ran through the water.

She climbed and played.

The park was full of mom/kids and working professionals who decided to take their lunch break outside.

When we got hungry, we went over to the line of food trucks and ordered lunch. The lines were kind of long, so we ended up at the "Crepe Truck"-- which surprisingly sold grilled cheese sandwiches!

It was a fun afternoon. A nice escape from our usual little routine.
